A note from eMarketer based on an study carried on by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Marketing Research reveled that the Inc. 500 fastest growing companies are continuing to increase their usage of some social media tools, while pulling back from others.

Nearly three-quarters of the companies studied were using LinkedIn in 2011, and almost half had adopted YouTube. Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare were up in 2011.

Compared to 2009–2010, the usage of blogs, online video in social media, message/bulletin boards, podcasting and Myspace were all down. There was also a 50% decrease from 2010 in Inc. 500 companies who said they used no social media marketing tools.

However Message and bulleting boards along with blogging are some of the tools that marketers are abandoning the most even when are still reported to be highly effective (at least for those companies that continue to use them). While a strong majority of respondents indicated they were having success with Twitter (86%) and Facebook (82%), this was lower than several other, less-popular services.
This could mean that marketers can be abandoning techniques that are generating properly results

However, it could also be a sign that marketers who have mastered these techniques are sticking with them, while those that have seen less success in these areas are pulling back from their efforts.
Those marketers who continue to blog are likely the ones who have seen the most blogging success, for example, while those who found blogging’s return on investment too low have likely moved on.

In addition, the overwhelming popularity of Facebook among marketers means that those with less social media marketing experience or sophistication are likely using it, perhaps pushing success rates down.

· As displayed in the voting surveys, in social networks and online media, Pino Solanas and Daniel Filums fight for second place in the total number of mentions (positive, negative and neutrals, falling behind first place Mauricio Marcri).

· Mauricio Macri has more negative mentions than positive. However, the opposite is seen with opponents Daniel Filmus and Pino Solanas

Buenos Aires, July 6, 2011- Socialmetrix, the Social Media Analytics leader in Latin America, made a report on the leading three candidates of next Buenos Aires City Elections listed with the best vote intent, by monitoring opinions through online media and social networks in Argentina.

By using the Socialmetrix Echo tool from June 5 to July 4, a total of 6879 (positive, negative, and neutral) mentions were given about the candidates who will possibly be the future governance of the city.

Of the total mentions, 45.3% corresponds to Mauricio Macri, giving him the first place spot, following with Daniel Filmus with 27.4% and Pino Solanas with 27.3%. See Figure 1.

Analyzing only the positive mentions, Mauricio Macri continues to be in first place with 44.3%, followed by Daniel Filmus with 31.8% above Pino Solanas with 23.9%.

The same applies to the negative mentions. Macri receives the largest portion with 66.9% , followed by Daniel Filmus (18.2%) above Pino Solanas (14.9%).

In conclusion, if we compare the positive and negative mentions obtained by each candidate, the results indicate the following balances:
- Mauricio Macri: -22.6%
- Daniel Filmus: +13.6%
- Pino Solanas: +9.0%

On the other hand, the report shows that while peaks are detected in the total amount of mentions, the results show an increasing trend of references as it nears the date of the elections. See Figure 2.

Other results from the research:

When Pino Sonanas announced his candidacy on May 2nd, he received 78.3% of the daily mentions, followed by Mauricio Macri with 15.8% and Daniel Filmus with 5.8%.

Using Socialmetrix Brands with the filter “United States” we analyzed more than 2 million comments (May 2011) and generated the following report with the Top 10 most mentioned brands on the Internet.

Based on this report Google is the most mentioned brand with 9.40% Share of Voice followed by Apple (6.69%), Microsoft (5.17%), Samsung (5.05%), Youtube (4.42%), Best buy (3.98%), Blackberry (3.80%), Sony (3.32%), Amazon (2.48%) and Coca Cola (1.94%).

It is important to mention that Socialmetrix Brands search for Entities instead of just Keywords which means that it doesn’t matter if the people say “Coca Cola” or “Coke”, we capture the mention either way.

There are books that one forgets easily, almost immediately after having read them. Others leave behind a small memory of a landscape, character or situation. But there are very few that immediately leave us with a feeling of intimacy so strong that we feel as if they are our own work; books that leave behind a stamp of brilliance. This was what I felt after reading the book “On Heroes and Tombs” by Ernesto Sábato.

The characters of “On Heroes and Tombs” go through life with a sort of tragic romanticism. Love is the motor driving all the successes that unfold in a complex stage of life in which the reality that surrounds the characters begins to transform itself, giving rise to the utopias that will prevail. This is an internal battle of desires that often takes place outside of that which is permitted by reality. And it speaks to the merit of this work of literature that like myself, so many people have identified with some of it’s characters, with their thoughts, worries, feelings, or simply have enjoyed the pleasure of reading the stories of these characters intertwined with the history of a country.

My interest in this work of literature lead me to look into the author and to continue to read his other books. This is marvelous literature by an author committed to ethics and the dignity of the human being.

Ernesto Sábato is one of the most important Latin American writers, and I speak in the present because the work of this artist and his name will endure, even though this past Saturday (30/04/2011) he passed away at the age of 99.

The news spread throughout the media, and people quickly began to mention his name on the web. Let’s take a look at what happened on this day when Sábato’s name was mentioned.

On the 17th of April, BAFICI (Buenos Aires Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente) came to an end, with around 300 000 people enjoying a festival that 13 years ago was regarded as being only of interest to a minority of cult film lovers and as the festival for quirky cinephiles, clad in designer black-framed glasses and vintage (which still remains the fashion). But the large number of people in attendance has demonstrated that what was missing was a space to screen those productions of the 7th art that don’t make it to commercial cinemas and that previously could only be viewed in small movie clubs.

Why not listen to what this group of people think, how they express themselves and what topics they’re talking about on the web in relation to BAFICI?
